Marc Held

Marc Held, a committed designer

French designer, architect, and photographer Marc Held has established himself as a major figure in contemporary design.
His work combines minimalism, ergonomics, and ecological commitment.

After starting out in photography and theater, he devoted himself entirely to design and architecture, creating groundbreaking furniture. Among his most famous creations are the CULBUTO, which have become a landmark in design history. His works are exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the MAD in Paris and the Cooper Hewitt in New York.

Today, Marc Held directs his work towards ecological issues, favoring natural materials and advocating for a more harmonious urbanity.

Throughout his career, Marc Held has demonstrated a deep respect for artisans and their skills. He favors short supply chains, working with local workshops, and the transmission of traditional techniques. For him, dialogue with the artisan is essential, enriching the creative process and guaranteeing the excellence of the finished product. This philosophy is at the heart of projects like the famous TUMBLER, which perfectly illustrate his approach: furniture-sculptures "made with care and respect for the material."

“Marc Held’s Tumbler is now getting a luxurious makeover: after the fiberglass and polyester versions, legitimate and prestigious in the 1970s, by Knoll, it is now available in solid wood, produced in a limited series by the Parisian gallery Promitto by Valérie Guérin…”

Véronique Lorelle, Le monde

Marc Held remains true to his convictions, far removed from the fleeting trends of mass production. He is a pioneer of sustainable and responsible design, whose influence continues to inspire new generations of designers. His work testifies to the importance of provenance, quality, and human connection in the creative process.

With Galerie Promitto, Valérie Guérin and Marc Held open a new chapter by highlighting the sculptural dimension, the design and the aesthetics elevating these furniture-sculptures to the status of art objects.
